My mission

My mission

To inspire others to travel on foot by exploring and documenting the walking trails of the world.

Meet The Trail Hunter

Who am I?

A long-term traveller with a passion for walking.

I’m Russell Hepton, a graphic designer from the UK who’s always loved the outdoors more than sitting at a desk. In 2016, I went travelling long-term for the first time.

I spent 3 months in Indonesia hiking volcanoes, wandering down the streets of Java, trekking through the rain forest in Borneo and discovering really new things that I never knew existed.

I was instantly hooked.

My inspiration

At the summit of Gunung Rinjani in Lombok I took this shot of Gunung Agung in Bali. 63 miles west of the steaming inferno where I was stood.

To summit such a tall volcano and stand on top of the world, gazing over such a vast distance filled me with faith in my ability to fulfil my dreams.

Where it all began

A week later I climbed that volcano in Bali and as the sun began to cast its morning light on the horizon, the point on which I stood on Gunung Rinjani faded into view and I was greeted by the greatest sight of my life.

This view, looking back at Rinjani made me realise that discovering sights like this with nothing but my feet to get me there is what I wanted to do.

Forever.
